Spartan Post is the winner of Oklahoma Scholastic Media’s 2013 All-Oklahoma and Charles E. “Colonel” Savedge Sweepstakes Award as the best online high school newspaper in the state of Oklahoma.
Sprouted from the previous print version of the Bixby High School newspaper, The Voice of the Spartans, the journalism department strives to empower student journalists to act independently and report accurate, fair and balanced news of the highest quality and value. Stories reflect common news values of the Spartan Post such as impact, immediacy, proximity, prominence and student interest.
The Bixby High School Journalism Department trains students in all aspects of journalism. These skills are reflected in Spartan Post through traditional and multimedia journalism This new form of journalism requires the journalist to be skilled in more than one discipline. As a result Spartan Post staff members work closely with the Broadcasting and Sports Media Arts Production class which produces content for SPN (Spartan Post News), Bixby Spartans TV and Cox Channel 24. SPN is part of the OK Preps network and GameView TV.
Spartan Post and SPN’s adviser is Dee Harris, Bixby High School’s Director of Communications, Broadcast and Journalism Instruction.
